Phiippines emerging as Korea's top outbound tourism destination

- In 2018, PHL saw 1.6 million Korean visitors

The Philippine continues to keep  a high profile in the world tourism radar and remains to be one of the most sought-after destinations by many foreign travelers.
The number of outgoing Korean tourists to the Philippines continues to grow. Last year, about 1.6 million Korean tourists visited the Philippines.
For the first seven months of this year,Korea remains as the country’s top source market with 1,113,274 arrivals.
For the month of July alone, Korean arrivals posted a growth of 31.5% or 167,249 visitors.
Against this backdrop,  Amb.Noe A. Wong of the Philippine Embassy in Korea hosted  a meaningful working luncheon at the embassy compound on Sept.26 with 100 plus local journalists and travel writers.
According to travel and leisure magazine’s top 10 islands in Asia for this year, Boracay ranked as number 9, Cebu as number 7.
CNN travel selected Vigan, Illocos Sur as one of the 13 of the most beautiful towns in Asia.
Amb.Noe A. Wong noted that Korean airlines have recently  launched new air routes while Jeju Air launched a new route  of Daegu-Cebu-Daegu on 17 September 2019, which operates four times a week.
Korean air will start flying to Clark from Incheon by next month. Air Busan will soon operate Busan-Kalibo-Busan flight from 27 October 2019.


With a view of ensuring safety of Korean Tourists in the Philippines and the  Philippine National Police (PNP) have pledged to conduct the Tourist-Oriented Police for Community Order and Protection program or TOPCOP.Amb.Wong quoted  PDOT Security Bernadette Romulo-Puyat as having said that the TOPCOP training will showcase the “Filipino brand of service” highlighting the Filipino’s unique and genuine hospitality while working on strengthening the safety and security of international and domestic visitors in the country’s tourist areas.
The TOPCOP program has trained around 4,600 tourist police in key tourist destinations.
The TOPCOP program will enhance police visibility in visitor areas, where PNP personnel will patrol. PNP will set up more tourist assistance centers and complaints desks. PNP is now on its journey of transformation, a significant part of which is the continuing enjamce,ent and improvement of the skills. Knowledge and work, attitudes of the police personnel. PNP wants to ensure that their police are highly trained, well equipped and constantly prepared in performing their duties, especially on responding to crisis.
Two friendly countries, Korea and the Philipines  mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of PH-ROK diplomatic  relations this year.
"This year, we celebrate the 70th anniversary of establishment of PR-ROK bilateral relations. To commemorate this milestone. President Rodrigo Rod Duterte and President Moon Jae-in, during their summit meeting
in June last year, have agreed to designate 2019 as the year of mutual exchanges between South Korea and the Philippines , Amb. Wong added..

Among the activities of the Embassy of the Philippines in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Philippine-Korea
Diplomatic Relations included “Feel the Phil” exhibition organized by the PDOT in Seoul, the event celebrates the strong people-to-people exchanges between the PH and ROK. The unique event adopts the recent trend in exhibition concept in Korea such as 2D/3D illusion effect with high-end technology featuring Augmented Reality and Visual Reality. The event opened on 24 April 2019 and ran until 6 May 2019 at the Insa Art Centre in Insadong, Seoul.
Also included are PH-ROK Bayanihan (Friendship) Parade , the PH-ROK Bayanihan (Friendship) Parade (12 October 2019) at the Itaewon Global Village Parade which will be participated in by various Filipino-Korean sectoral groups showcasing Filipino-Korean Festivals in street dance. A Filipino-Korean cultural dance will be performed at the end of the parade.

In the meantime,Philippine Film Festival was held  20-22 September 2019 in  celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippine and Korea.
Among other programs are  the 20th anniversary of ASEAN -Korea Dialogue relations. Philippine films were showcased to raise awareness of Philippine culture. The Film festival was organize by the Philippine Embassy in Seoul in cooperation with the film development council, of the Philippines (FDCP), the ASEAN Culture House (ACH), the Korea Foundation and the Busan international film festival.

Commemoration of the landing of the Philippine expeditionary forces to Korea (PEFTOK)- The 69the anniversary of the  articipation of the Philippine expeditionary Forces to Korea (PEFTOK) in the Korean War (1950-2) was marked in a solemn ceremony held at the war memorial on 17 September 2019. This activity aimed to perpetuate the memory of the valiant Filipino soldiers who fought and died in the Korean in the Korean War.
Among other programs were Filipino Language Speech contest for Korean students aimed at engaging e and connecting Filipino and Korean youth in South Korea through public speaking and the Filipino language (29 September 2019).
In the meantime, Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra Concert - the Manila Symphony junior orchestra and Korea Suzuki Association staged their high anticipated concert in Seoul at the Yongsan Art Hall on 27 July 2019.
This concert was a rare opportunity to showcase Filipino, Korean and classical musical works performed with passion by Filipino and Korean young artists.
